The Kore Group was established in 2006 through a joint venture between the db Group and James Caterers Ltd.. The Group started off operating in the contract catering market, producing and supplying meals for the national airline and the state hospitals in Malta. Throughout the years, the Group ventured further into health and social care services: the provision of health workers to hospitals and clinics, the delivery of domiciliary care by providing care and health services in the homes of patients, the design, build and management of a nursing home, and training and education within the health and social care industry.

Today, the Kore Group continues to be Malta’s leader in producing and supplying more than 9,000 meals per day to hospitals, and nursing homes, and the national expert in producing and supplying meals and snacks to the local aviation industry. It also operates part of the largest nursing home in Malta. In 2023, the Group opened its doors to two education institutions: a Training Centre in Dubai and an Academy in Malta, providing training in relation to health and social care. This will further strengthen the quality of services provided by the Group.

With 15+ years of experience, Malta Healthcare Caterers currently provides catering to all major hospitals and care institutions in Malta, producing and delivering 9,000 meals every day 7 days a week, 365 days a year. Over the years, the Company has been successfully providing such a service to various hospitals including Mater Dei, Karin Grech and Sir Paul Boffa hospitals since 2007, to the Gozo General Hospital since 2013, to Saint Vincent de Paul Residence since 2014 and to Sir Anthony Mamo Oncology Centre since 2015. In 2017, under a 10-year catering agreement, Kore was awarded the continued supply of meals for residents at SVPR and entrusted with the setting up of an onsite, fully equipped catering centre.

Kore Air Services is the main provider of in-flight catering in Malta. It provides in-flight catering services to KM Malta Airlines (former Air Malta), Malta’s national airline. This contract has been operational for over 16 years, with the Group being re-awarded the contract in 2022. Since then, the airline business has continued to develop and over the years has successfully serviced 34 international airlines, which include but are not limited to Emirates, Turkish Airlines, Lufthansa German Airlines, Ryanair, Qatar Airways, Air China, and Air India on a regular or ad hoc basis. In-flight meals also include a mix of Business Class, Crew and economy pre-orders, besides tailored menus for charters and private jets.

This dedicated procurement unit is conveniently placed within the airport perimeter for the company to have direct access to the apron.

JC Events has become a household name in Malta, specialising in catering for private events such as weddings, home parties, and other special celebrations, as well as for corporate events ranging from small office parties to large scale events. Their dedication to perfection in food, accumulated through many years of experience, promises guaranteed success and a celebration that exceeds expectations, leaving a lasting impression.

Villa Blanche is JC Events’ own venue, serenely set in the gorgeous countryside in the limits of Żurrieq in Malta. Villa Blanche offers a stunning mix of indoor and outdoor areas, making it the perfect backdrop for any occasion all-year-round.

Manufacturing is predominantly done through The Food Factory which is our Centralised Processing Unit (CPU) producing our own branded products, private and white labelling products as well as all contract catering meals. The facility spreads over 23,000sqm with a total investment amounting to €35 million for both the build and equipment.
The factory is self-sufficient in having its own butchery, larders, kitchens, bakery, packaging facilities, assembly lines, pastry production, and gelateria together with a dedicated space for Research and Development. Organisational activities include food production, assembly, packing and delivery of meals whilst ensuring both quality of design and conformance to quality requirements.
The Food Factory brings together 7 different food production operations all working simultaneously, independent from one another. These are our:

• Healthcare catering production unit
• Independent industrial kitchen for non-healthcare food production and products
• Pastry and bakery to produce confectionery, bakery and sweet items
• High volume production area to produce puff pastry and savoury and sweet filled pastry items
• Halal and non-halal butcher
• Remote Gluten Free Production Unit
• Organic production unit
• Dedicated Starbucks kitchen

Currently, the CPU within the Food Factory mainly operates during the day, 7 times a week. However, it can also operate during the night which means that production capability can be double the current production output. We have permanent standby operations and procedures to cater for requests that arise outside of normal hours such as the emergency/quick meals or a replacement of a large number of meals which are or are not in line with proposed menus.

Jamesbury’s range of frozen cakes redefines convenience. From a heavenly variety of cheesecakes to indulgent sponge cakes and sweet pies, all desserts are conveniently packaged in 450-550g formats. Ideal for dinners, parties, or a personal treat, these cakes offer the perfect solution for variety and ultimate practicality. Just thaw and serve for a hassle-free dessert experience.

GLUT X was established to respond to the growing needs of gluten intolerant customers. The brand’s mission is that of making the best gluten-free products on the market.

With up to 6% of the world population suffering from a gluten intolerance or celiac disease, food producers are fast recognising the importance of serving this client base through convenient and high-quality products. Living with a gluten allergy or intolerance can be frustrating, not to mention the pain and disturbance it can create in one’s life. In 2017, the Kore Group was awarded a concession on a Public Private Partnership arrangement for the provision of high-level long-term care at Saint Vincent de Paul Long Term Facility, the largest nursing home in Malta. The Government of Malta entrusted the Kore Group under a 15-year agreement, with the construction and management of four new blocks. The Group is now responsible for fully operating 504 beds at the facility.

The total capital expenditure for the Project for the construction of the residential blocks, the on-site kitchen, as well as all the catering equipment, was €40 million all the operational preparations, within a 12-month period even though the contract stipulated a 36-month period for this, despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. All the blocks are now fully operational with full capacity. The project involved first-of-its-kind features in Malta like the installation of two hydrotherapy pools.

The operations at SVPR are concerned with running 4 residential blocks. These operations include (i) leadership, management, performance monitoring, and periodic reporting; (ii) staffing and development, including recruitment, induction, human resources, and payroll; and (iii) policy and strategy, including the implementation of policies as set out by SVPR, health and safety regulations in line with relevant legislation, and environmental management. Staff are qualified and trained in line with SVPR standards, operating policies and procedures, applicable laws, and industry good practice.

At SVPR, Kore provides the entire full scope of comprehensive residential care, which includes the following:

• Management of highly-dependent and dementia patients;
• 24-hour availability of a reception;
• Daily cleaning, linen and laundry services;
• Catering for residents;
• 24-hour helpdesk;
• 24-hour security function responsible for security services, staff vetting and training, patrolling, surveillance, emergency response, access control, incident reporting, crime prevention, lost property and traffic and car park management;
• 24-hour portering services;
• Transportation and courier services;
• Estate, utilities, waste management, and building maintenance;
• Provision of hairdressing and beauty service;
• Adequate storage facilities;
• Maintenance and safe-keeping of residents’ medical records;
• Management of residents’ money;
• Maintenance of the Residential Blocks and the assets housed therein, including preventative, periodic, and urgent maintenance/repairs;
• Operations of mortuary;
• Organisation of active ageing activities;
• Operation of 2 hydrotherapy pools;
• Specialised isolation rooms for infective cases.

The team at SVPR consists of 450 individuals split into carers, nurses, cleaners and laundry staff, hairdressers, store personnel, maintenance workers and managers.

Healthmark outsources nurses and carers to all major hospitals and nursing homes in both Malta and Gozo, both in the public and also in the private sector. For many years, the Company has been the service provider of nurses and care workers to Mater Dei Hospital, the country’s main hospital. Healthmark also outsources nursing, home help, childcare educators, personal care assistants and clerical services to various government, corporate and private clients.

Healthmark is Malta’s leading independent providers of domiciliary health and social care services. Over the years, the venture grew considerably resulting in a substantial increase in the number of staff required. Since Healthmark was established, it has helped almost 50,000 clients, adding up to 6.8 million interventions in this area.

In the local community, Healthmark provides home care and support services to senior citizens and to persons who need help at home due to illness or disability. Such support ranges from morning and night-time assistance, personal care, medication support, laundry, cleaning, meal preparation and other household tasks. Healthmark’s care services also include specialist services such as supporting persons living with dementia and palliative care.

The domiciliary care team consists of 600 individuals split into carers, nurses, home helpers, midwives, paramedic aides, administrative staff and office clerks.

Dubai

Healthmark’s training centre in Dubai was set up in 2023 to support the Group’s recruitment efforts for its operations in Malta. Healthmark has established this centre so that while prospective employees await their VISA approval to work in Malta, they can be provided with the necessary training needed to perform their jobs effectively once they arrive in Malta, whilst preparing them for a career in Europe.

The training centre has an area of 250sqm. Facilities at this training centre consist of a training room, a hospital simulation room with medical equipment, offices, meeting rooms, and a recreation area. The academy is certified by the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA), which is the educational quality assurance and regulatory authority of the Government of Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates. Each group consists of 20-30 students with 2 trainers to teach clinical and non-clinical content. Courses are held weekly.

Malta

The group is seeking to open an Academy in Malta to align the qualifications of carers with the Company’s standards and local market needs. The academy will have an area of 431sqm and will offer a number of facilities such as lecture rooms, a seminar hall, an applied nutrition lab, a hospital simulation room equipped with medical equipment, private offices, open reception, meeting rooms, and a recreation area.

The local academy will be affiliated with Pearson (UK), the world’s leading learning company, and with BELS English Language school (Malta), one of the most highly accredited schools in Malta. The various courses that shall be offered are:

● Pearson BTEC International Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Health and Social Care;
● Pearson BTEC International Diploma Level 2; and
● IELTS English Certification

James Bakes and Cakes operates in two locations, offering a delectable assortment of cakes in all sizes as well as pancakes, waffles, croissants amongst other goodies intended for on-premise or take-home consumption. It also offers seasonal delights during peak festivities and other occasions. Beyond their freshly made treats, James Bakes and Cakes is not just a cafeteria but also a destination to purchase fine-quality food and desserts crafted at The Food Factory.

James Daily Needs offers a confectionery and convenience shop experience in three localities, selling fast moving consumer goods and foodstuffs as well as delicacies and desserts that satisfy daily needs across extended opening hours. Such a channel has seen significant growth over the years and has become indispensable in servicing the modern-day busy consumer with daily needs. These shops further act as shop windows to many retail brands produced by the Food Factory, and together with the Cafeterias, add to the Group’s retail operations.

Ħelu Manna is Malta’s first 100% gluten-free cafeteria franchise, operating from two locations. Its great selection boasts an array of irresistible sweets, diverse bread options, flavourful wraps, vibrant salads, amongst other gluten-free treats similar to, if not better, its gluten-containing counterparts. All produce sold at Ħelu Manna is manufactured by Glut X at their dedicated CPU, ensuring that there is no cross contamination at any point. Ħelu Manna has not only been an overnight success with just the coeliac community but also with those who can eat gluten because of the great food it serves and the relaxing ambience it offers. Ħelu Manna has put gluten-intolerance at the centre of the proposition and not merely a segment catered for through a couple of menu options.

With three restaurants around the island, Chiaro has become a favourite of many, serving delectable Mediterranean cuisine encompassing perfectly-made pasta, mouth-watering pizzas, succulent meats, flavourful burgers, amongst other tantalising dishes. Its modern and sophisticated interior invites guests to savour their meals amidst tasteful decor in a relaxing ambience. Chiaro in Birżebbuġa offers a special outdoor area where guests can enjoy their food while taking in the sea breeze and admiring the beach view. Complimenting its great menu, Chiaro also offers a great selection of cocktails that will make you want to go back for more.

Chiaro is not only good for the taste buds but also for the pocket with affordable family-friendly prices. With a dedicated play area, Chiaro has become a favourite of many children too, giving adults time to enjoy their food.

With its first outlet opened in 2019, Debar Ltd. (a joint venture with db Group) operates all 15 Starbucks outlets in Malta, providing them with 330 food items daily from a dedicated kitchen.

Ceserani is a joint venture with Anton B. Dougall M.O.M., a pioneer in the field of catering and renowned restaurateur and media personality in Malta. Ceserani Catering Institute, aims at helping people aged 14 years and upwards to enter the food industry, learn skills and engage in personal development activities. In this regard, the Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Malta through which together with the Ministry of Education, a collaboration is developed which enhances the development of students and young people aged between 14 and 25 years old. Those participating in the programme will have the possibility to learn about food manufacturing and the catering industries as well as other areas of vocational and applied learning.

Ceserani also provides food handling training and certification for our staff and third parties. Such education has been accredited, making it the only one of its kind to attain accreditation locally. Ceserani will soon be offering training and certification for the Skills Card which is required by those working in Malta’s tourism sector in order to be eligible for a work permit and visa. It validates their skills and competencies in areas such as customer care, hospitality, and English proficiency.

Navigare Supplies Ltd., the Group’s logistics and distribution company specialises in the global sourcing, importation, distribution, marketing and export of products for the retail and catering industry, including those produced by The Food Factory. In addition to this, Navigare also manages third-party logistics. The portfolio of brands handled by Navigare is backed by a business structure which nurtures the growth of these brands, and which at its core, has the goal of bringing the products to consumers in a timely and efficient manner.

The Company is recognised as a leading food distributor in Malta disposing of its fully owned storage facilities and distribution fleet handling fresh, ambient, chilled and frozen temperature regimes.
